Arts

 

The Arts are a group of distinctive but interrelated means of communication, each with its own concepts, processes, skills and ways of structuring meaning. In all cultures the Arts provide important ways of perceiving, processing, expressing and representing ideas, emotions, values and beliefs.

 

The Arts offer students many opportunities to explore and discover their strengths as individuals and to work together in groups. The expression of personal experiences and communication through a wide range of Arts experiences will enhance a sense of self worth and individual identity in each student, especially if all work is valued in a supportive manner.

Students study both units.

Students select at least one but no more than two semester length units from the group below.

The Components of the Arts Curriculum are:

 

Creating Making and Presenting – artistic concepts and processes, practical skills, expression and communication of ideas and feeling, interpretive skills

 

Analysing and Making Aesthetic Judgements – using artistic concepts to analyse, discuss and respond to artistic works

 

Social Cultural and Historical Concepts - understanding of the various contexts in which artistic works have been created.

 

Assessment criteria for each Arts area are notified in course outlines which indicate tasks and weightings and are based on the curriculum components detailed above.

Grade Descriptors

A – Outstanding Achievement

You have demonstrated outstanding achievement of the knowledge, skills and understandings expected.

B – High Achievement

You have demonstrated high achievement of the knowledge, skills and understandings expected.

C – Sound Achievement      

You have demonstrated sound achievement of the knowledge, skills and understandings expected.

D – Limited Achievement

You have demonstrated limited achievement of the knowledge, skills and understandings expected.

E – Very Limited Achievement

You have demonstrated very limited achievement of the knowledge, skills and understandings expected.

S – Status

Awarded to students where unavoidable circumstances have prevented assessment for an A-E grade.
