The Canberra High School Band Program caters for both beginners and continuing band students in Years 7, 8 9 & 10. Our band is a Concert Band:

Concert Band Instruments:

Woodwind: flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor, & baritone saxophone

Brass: trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba

Percussion: drums, glockenspiel, auxiliary percussion

Bass: bass guitar

Band Instrument Hire: The school has a range of band instruments available for students to hire. Hire fees are $85-95 per semester depending on instrument, or $160-170 per year.

Performance Opportunities: Students from the Band Workshop classes regularly perform at events such as Harmony Day, ANZAC Day, assemblies, Open Night, Winter Concert, Open Rehearsals, National Eisteddfod, Band Festival, and Arts & Technology Showcase.

Year 7 Band Workshop

Year 7 Band Workshop provides a pathway for students who have been involved in the Primary School Band Program, as well as giving beginner students the opportunity to learn a band instrument. Band Workshop students will develop and extend their instrumental performance skills and music theory, as well as work on repertoire for the whole band and small ensembles.

**Year 7 Band Workshop students take part in the Year 7 Art and Technology programs throughout the year, in conjunction with band.**

Year 8 Band Workshop

Year 8 Band Workshop students develop and extend their instrumental performance skills and music theory, as well as work on repertoire for the whole band and small ensembles. This course provides a pathway for students who have been involved in the Year 7 Band program at Canberra High School or Primary School Band Program, as well as giving beginner students the opportunity to learn a band instrument.

**Year 8 Band Workshop students take part in unique, specialised Technology and Media Art courses throughout the year, in conjunction with band.**

Senior Concert Band

Senior Concert Band students develop and extend their instrumental performance skills on their band instrument, as well as work on repertoire for the whole band and small ensembles. They perform in private and concert situations. Students have the opportunity to compose and arrange their own music using written notation and computer-based music-writing programs. Music theory, aural and critical listening activities is linked to performance. Senior Concert Band students also provide leadership and mentoring for students in the beginner band.
