Year 7 Program - Artworks

What do Students Learn?

This one semester unit aims to develop and build skills and ideas through a variety of art media, techniques and processes.

Students explore visual art ideas including line, shape, tone, colour, texture, form and space.

What Kind of Learning Activities Do Students Do?

Students create, make and present drawing, design, printmaking and painting projects and respond to social, historical and cultural aspects of art in writing tasks.

How Are Students Assessed?

Students will be assessed on both practical and written work in the unit. Practical work will focus on their understanding of concepts, individual skill and creativity of final pieces. Students will also be required to complete a Visual Diary where they will be asked to explore concepts, make notes and draft work.

There is also a requirement for each student to complete a Research Task

Year 8 Program - Exploring Art

What Do Students Learn?

This one semester unit aims to expand, develop and build skills and ideas through a variety of art media, techniques and processes.

Students strengthen their understanding of visual art concepts including line, shape, tone, colour, texture, form and space.

What Kind of Learning Activities Do Students Do?

Students use more sophisticated techniques to create, make and present drawing, design, printmaking and painting exercises and class projects. They also respond to and interpret the social, historical and cultural aspects of art through writing tasks.

How Are Students Assessed?

Students will be assessed on both practical and written work in the unit. Practical work will focus on their understanding of concepts, individual skill and creativity of final pieces. Students will also be required to complete a Visual Diary where they will be asked to explore concepts, make notes and draft work.

There is also a requirement for each student to complete a Research Task.

Year 9 and 10 Program - Visual Art Workshop 1 and 2

What Do Students Learn?

These one semester units aim to refine, develop and extend students' skills and ideas through a variety of art media, techniques and processes.

What Kind of Learning Activities Do Students Do?

With more knowledgeable use of the elements of design and composition and advanced colour mixing techniques, students create, make and present drawing, design, printmaking and painting exercises and class projects.

Through writing exercises students respond to and interpret the social, historical and cultural aspects of art. They also learn how to appreciate and critique an artwork.

How Are Students Assessed?

Students will be assessed on both practical and written work in the unit. Practical work will focus on their understanding of concepts, individual skill and creativity of final pieces. Students will also be required to complete a Visual Diary where they will be asked to explore concepts, make notes and draft work.

There is also a requirement for each student to complete a Research Task.

Year 9 and 10 Program - Ceramics

What Do Students Learn?

Students learn about sculpture. They build upon the 3-D skills and knowledge learned in Year 7 and 8.

What Kind of Learning Activities Do Students Do?

Students revise the basic pottery construction methods of pinch, coil and slab They are also introduced to more complex decorating and firing techniques and explore the 3-D media of wire construction methods.

How Are Students Assessed?

Students will be assessed on both practical and written work in the unit. Practical work will focus on their understanding of concepts, individual skill and creativity of final pieces. Students will also be required to complete a Visual Diary where they will be asked to explore concepts, make notes and draft work.
